Adware can be an annoyance, and over the past few years of internet history some of adware's functional features have begun to appear like spyware, which is a bigger threat. Adware that is sent in email often notifies businesses when you opened the mail, in what country, what you did with it (probably junked it!), from what IP address, and how long you looked at it.
